What is wrong with training on typical "gym or fitness center equipment"? Non-functional resistance machines can play a useful supplementary role to free weight and sport specific training equipment, but in general they are unable to provide the same degree of multi-dimensional, full range neuromuscular and musculoskeletal training as free weights and sports specific equipment. In the vast majority of cases, NFR machines provide an inferior, incomplete and less efficient way of training the musculoskeletal system. This is particularly true regarding the conditioning of the neuromuscular system in rapid or explosive movements, as well as the elastic qualities of the tendons and other connective tissues which are essential in all sports involving running, jumping, throwing, catching or any other ballistic actions. |
